Lac La Biche

The Lac La Biche Region has a naturally rich business community with a stable economic climate and providing a strong base for industry – and a secure future for individuals and families.

The region is sheltered from the economy’s changing winds by the variety of industries operating here – such as tourism, agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, and more. If you’re going to pick a place for its economic climate, it’s nice to know the Lac La Biche Region is also one of the most beautiful locations in Alberta.

Lac La Biche County is the primary economic service center for industrial activity in Northeastern Alberta and is the municipality of choice for commercial, retail, housing and lifestyle investment in the region. Not only are we the gateway to the South Athabasca Oil Sands and vast Northern resources, we are the hub of an ever increasing transportation network including Highways 36, 55, 63 and 881, the only rail system in Northeastern Alberta, and an airport in a key location.

Oil & Gas: The Lac La Biche Region is strategically situated at the crossroads of two major oil sands producing areas in Fort McMurray and Cold Lake. Drilling, seismic, and pipeline construction contribute significantly to the local economy. Opportunities for expansion and new ventures exist in servicing Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) developments.

Tourism: Tourism has grown as the demand for new services and unique wilderness opportunities have grown. This northern lake country has long attracted outdoor enthusiasts to view and enjoy the pristine beauty of the lakes and forests. The region consistently attracts over 175,000 tourists annually.

Retail Sales: The core retail sector of the region is in the hamlet of Lac La Biche which has a primary catchment area of about 17,900 people. As the region’s industrial and commercial sectors expand, and the population continues to grow, opportunities to provide goods and services to the local markets have also increased.

Rural subdivisions offering all the amenities of municipal living are popping up at record rates. Lakeshore cabins are all the rage, and getaway retreats hidden deep in the boreal forest are the pride of many new families. Local realtors and developers are ready to accommodate new residents, but it is the clean air, un-obstructed views and hospitable community which really do the selling.
